Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and CarSchoolr. By creating an account or using the service, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use CarSchoolr.

We record the date you accepted these terms on your profile. If you are agreeing on behalf of a household, you confirm you are able to do so.

You must be at least 18 years old. CarSchoolr is intended for parents and guardians arranging transportation, not for students arranging it themselves. By using the service you represent that you are 18 or older and legally able to enter this agreement.

Do not create an account for a minor, and do not let a minor use your account. We will close accounts we find are held by people under 18.

CarSchoolr is software that helps families at the same school find each other and decide, on their own, whether to arrange a carpool. We score compatibility on schedule, location, and grade level, we deliver connection requests, and we can keep track of a driving rotation once you have one.

That is the whole of what we do. To be explicit about what we are not:

• We are not a transportation company, a motor carrier, a rideshare service, or a taxi service.
• We do not employ, contract with, supervise, train, schedule, or direct any driver.
• We do not own, inspect, maintain, or insure any vehicle.
• We are not a party to any carpool arrangement you make, and we take no fee from it.
• We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any school or district, and schools do not administer or supervise CarSchoolr carpools.

Every carpool is a private arrangement between the families in it. We introduce people. What happens after the introduction is between you.

Keep your password to yourself and keep it strong. You are responsible for what happens under your account, including activity by anyone you let use it. Tell us promptly at support@carschoolr.org if you think someone else has gained access.

One account per person. Do not sell, share, or transfer your account, and do not create a new one to get around a suspension.

Other families decide whether to put their children in a car based on what your profile says. Everything on it must be true and current: your name, your school, your grade level, your landmark, your schedule, and anything you list under requirements.

Keep it up to date. If your schedule changes or you leave the school, update your profile or close your account. Impersonating someone else, or claiming a school you have no connection to, is grounds for immediate removal.

Verifying a school email is optional. It earns a badge that tells other families you received a code at an email address on that school's domain. Once you verify, your school selection locks.

Where a school has no usable email verification, support may issue an access code after confirming your connection to the school by other means. Sharing or attempting to obtain an access code you were not issued is a violation of these terms.

We do not conduct background checks, criminal history checks, driving record checks, identity verification, or vehicle inspections on anyone. We have no way to know whether another family is safe, and we make no representation that they are. Deciding who to carpool with is entirely your responsibility.

Before you arrange anything, we strongly encourage you to:

• Meet in person, in a public place, before any child rides with anyone.
• Ask to see a driver's license and proof of current insurance, and offer yours.
• Confirm the car has a seat for every passenger and the right restraints for their age and size.
• Talk through pickup points, timing, and what happens if someone is late or sick.
• Tell someone else about the arrangement, and keep phone numbers for everyone involved.
• Trust your instincts and stop if something feels wrong. You never owe anyone an explanation for declining.

If someone on CarSchoolr behaves in a way that worries you, report it to support@carschoolr.org. If anyone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.

By driving other families in a carpool you arranged through CarSchoolr, you confirm that:

• You hold a valid, unrestricted driver's license for the vehicle you are driving.
• Your vehicle is registered, roadworthy, and covered by insurance that meets or exceeds the minimum your state requires.
• You will follow every applicable traffic law, including child restraint and booster seat requirements, and seat belt laws for every passenger.
• You will not drive while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or medication, or while distracted by a phone.
• You will not carry more passengers than the vehicle has seats and restraints for.
• You are not charging a fare or operating commercially. Informal cost sharing between families is between them, and CarSchoolr takes no part in it.

Confirm with your own insurer that your policy covers carrying other people's children. Coverage varies, and we cannot advise you on it.

While using CarSchoolr, you agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, deceive, or discriminate against another user.
• Use the service for anything other than arranging carpools, including recruiting, soliciting, or advertising.
• Collect, scrape, or store other families' information, or pass it on to anyone outside the carpool it was shared for.
• Send bulk or repeated connection requests to people who have declined.
• Upload anything unlawful, abusive, or that is not yours to upload.
• Probe, scrape, overload, reverse engineer, or attempt unauthorized access to the service.
• Misrepresent your identity, your school, or your relationship to a student.

Another family's details become visible to you for one reason: so you can arrange a carpool with them. Using them for anything else is a breach of these terms.

You keep ownership of what you upload, including your photo, your requirements text, and any testimonial you submit. You give us permission to store and display it as needed to run the service, which mainly means showing it to families at your school under the rules in our Privacy Policy. A testimonial you send us may be shown publicly on our site.

Only upload content you have the right to upload, and do not post photos of other people's children. We may remove content that breaks these terms.

Using CarSchoolr means receiving service emails: verification codes, connection requests, acceptance notices, and carpool reminders before your turn to drive. These are part of the product, not marketing, and you cannot opt out of them while keeping an active account.

Accept and decline links in those emails are signed and expire after 30 days. They work without signing in, so treat them like anything else in your inbox and do not forward them.

CarSchoolr uses outside services for maps, landmark search, email delivery, file storage, and the help assistant. Those services have their own terms, and we are not responsible for how they behave or for content on any site we link to.

The help assistant generates answers automatically and can be wrong. The chat window says so under the input box. Do not rely on it for anything important. Check the dashboard or email support instead.

CarSchoolr is free, and we offer it as it is. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time, and we do not promise the service will be uninterrupted, error free, or available in your area. Matching depends on other families at your school having signed up, which is not something we can guarantee.

You can delete your account at any time from your profile settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that we reasonably believe puts other families at risk, or that is being used to misrepresent who someone is.

Where circumstances allow, we will tell you why. Sections that by their nature should survive the end of this agreement, including sections 15 through 18, continue to apply.

CarSchoolr is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non infringement.

We do not warrant the character, conduct, fitness, or safety of any user, the accuracy of anything a user tells you, or that a match will be suitable for your family. Match percentages are the output of an algorithm comparing schedules, distance, and grade level. They say nothing about whether a person is trustworthy.

To the fullest extent the law allows, CarSchoolr and the people who build it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, arising out of your use of the service.

We are also not liable for anything that happens in or around a carpool itself, including accidents, injuries, delays, missed pickups, property damage, disputes between families, or the conduct of any user, whether online or in person. Those events are outside our control, and arranging a carpool is your decision.

Because CarSchoolr is provided free of charge, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to one hundred United States dollars.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, or for fraud.

You agree to defend and hold harmless CarSchoolr and the people who build it against claims, losses, and reasonable legal costs arising from your use of the service, your breach of these terms, information you provided that was not accurate, or any carpool arrangement you entered into.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of laws rules, and any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California.

Before filing anything, please email support@carschoolr.org. Most problems are faster to fix by asking than by litigating.

If you live somewhere that gives you the right to bring proceedings locally, or that applies consumer protections we cannot contract out of, this section does not take those rights away.

We may update these terms as the product changes. When we do, we will move the date at the top of this page. For changes that materially affect your rights, we will give notice in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use CarSchoolr after that means you accept the updated terms.
